The NHS was founded in 1921 by the National Asociation of Secondary School Principals to recognize and commend outstanding high school students. Eight years later a National Junior Honor Society was founded to do the same for middle school students. Desiring to be more than a simple honor roll, the NHS based itself upon the tenets of character, service and leadership in addition to excellence in the field of academics.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
At MBS specifically, NHS is more than just an organization it is an attitude, it's a lifestyle. By pledging your self to the standards of the National Honor Society you are pledging yourself to a constant journey of self improvement and dedication to others. You are commiting to ridding yourself of complacency and lethargy and instead to living an active life for the betterment of yourself, your school and your community. Over the years in NHS we have raised food for flood victims, raised clothes for orphans, helped with recycling rallies, organized leadership seminars, and various other activities. We stand ready to give the best of ourselves to the MBS community whenever, wherever, however we can.
