Career Guidance Process
Every student is welcome to set up an appointment with the counselor to start the process for career counseling. Any serious process will include the following steps:
- Self Assessment: Know your own personality, skills, values, interests.
- Research: Know the available careers and study programs. Analyze job markets and national/international trends and needs through reading, interviews and experience.

College Guidance
Marian Baker School is an American international school. The majority of our student population plans to continue college studies in the United States or in Costa Rica. The college guidance information presented is directed to them and their parents.
Guidance is provided for students heading to other countries as well. If you need more information talk to the counselor.

Costa Rican Public University Admission Process
(University of Costa Rica, Universidad Nacional, Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica)
This process takes place during the senior year and after graduation:
February-April: Fill out and submit the Solicitud de Inscripción al Examen de Admisión (Registration to Admission Test).
June: Students will receive the Cita de Examen (Test Appointment) .
August: MBS reports the average grade of the last three years of high school academic subjects to the University. It represents 50% of the admission’s test score.
August-September: Adminstration of the admission test.
November: Admission Test Results
Parent’s Role
Motivate the student to research on different career paths by:
- Setting up interviews with different professional.
- Take advantage of interactions with family friends to talk about different occupations.
- Talk about your job, your experiences.
- Do community service or volunteer work in areas related to career interest.
Provide with opportunities to visit colleges of interest. Participate on college tours, and interviews with college representatives.
Communicate your expectations and possibilities.
Pressure and motivate student to be proactive and take responsibility on this process.
Support, be involved in the process of choosing schools/during application time.
