School Profile

The School

Marian Baker School (MBS) is a private international English speaking school educating kinder through high school students. The school offers a United States and Costa Rican based curriculum to prepare students for colleges and universities in the United States, Costa Rica, as well as other countries. There are thirteen different nationalities represented among faculty and students.  Staff vigorously supports parent expectations of the school:  preparation for university, authentic learning experiences, small class size, open-ended critical thinking strategies, special needs and intervention services, and family-oriented school-wide events.

The Faculty

All MBS teachers possess college degrees and are certified in their field of work, and more than 50% hold a Master’s degree.  Teachers participate in the selection of in-service topics to keep up-to-date with current developments in education, and also attend a variety of workshops and seminars both locally and internationally. The school has 35 teachers, with approximately 31% of them being North American.  Costa Rican teachers compromise 60% and the other 9% are either Europeans or Canadians.  US teaching certification is required of all teachers from the United States.  Host country teachers are also required to have the necessary qualifications for teaching in Costa Rica.

The Student Body
